Meme Creator for Captions, Reactions, and Jokes
How do you make a meme from your own pictures?
Create a meme from your own images, arrange the panels and add text. Use the preview to position the captions so they do not cover the important part of the picture. The finished meme is exported as a PNG image. Short captions and a clear reading order are easier to follow on a phone than dense text across several panels.
Cost: Free to use. File size and usage limits apply.
How to make a meme
Add your pictures
Click Upload Images and choose one or more images. Pictures you already used in other image tools in this browser appear as thumbnails too; the one you worked on last is preselected.
Choose the panels
Click a thumbnail to add it to the meme and click it again to remove it. The newest images come first, and panels are placed in that same order. With two or more images, pick a Layout.
Write the captions
Two text fields are ready, one near the top and one near the bottom, both reading
MEME TEXT. Select a field under Text Fields and type your caption into the Add Text box. The + button adds another line.Position and style each line
Move the selected line with the X and Y sliders and adjust Font Size, the Text and Outline colours, CAPS and Bold. The preview is exactly what you will download.

Every setting explained
Text settings apply to the field selected under Text Fields. Captions are set in Impact, the classic meme typeface, so your lettering looks the same on a phone and on a computer.
- Layout
- Side by side (default) splits the square into equal columns, Top and bottom into equal rows, and Grid into rows and columns: 2 × 2 for 3–4 images, 3 × 2 for 5–6 and 3 × 3 for 7–9. It has no effect while only one image is selected.
- Text Fields, + and Clear
- + adds a new line of text in the middle of the meme. Clear deletes the selected field. There is no limit on the number of fields; later ones are drawn on top.
- Add Text box
- Each field holds one line and does not wrap. The browser fits a line wider than 920 px (92% of the width) into that space; it can make the letters narrower or reduce their size. For a two-line caption, use two fields.
- X and Y
- 0 to 100 percent of the whole meme, not of a single panel. The value marks the centre of the line: X
50centres it, Y0is the top edge and100the bottom. The two starting fields sit at Y14and86. - Font Size
- 18 to 110 px, default 46 px. Sizes are measured on the 1000 × 1000 px meme rather than your screen, so 46 px is always 4.6% of the meme's height.
- Text and Outline
- White text with a black outline by default. The outline is always 5 px wide, centred on the letter edges; only its colour can be changed.
- CAPS
- On by default. Shows the caption in capital letters without changing what you typed; switch it off to get your original spelling back.
- Bold
- On by default for the heavy, punchy look memes are known for. Switch it off for a lighter weight when a caption should look less loud.
How your pictures fit the 1000 × 1000 px square
Every meme is a 1000 × 1000 px square. Each picture is scaled to fit its panel completely, without cropping, and the unused space is filled with black. Transparent areas in PNG images turn black as well.
With one image, a 1920 × 1080 px screenshot becomes 1000 × 563 px with about 219 px of black above and below. The starting captions at Y 14 and 86 land on those bars, giving the classic caption-above-and-below look. A 1080 × 1920 px phone photo gets the bars at the sides instead.
With two images, match the layout to their shape. Two 16:9 screenshots Side by side shrink to 500 × 281 px each, leaving about 359 px of black above and below; Top and bottom gives each 889 × 500 px with only about 56 px at the sides. Portrait photos work the other way round. With Grid, three images use a 2 × 2 grid and the fourth cell stays empty.
If a picture should fill its panel, crop it to the panel's shape first with Crop Image: square for a single image, 1:2 (portrait) for two panels side by side, 2:1 for top and bottom. Pictures smaller than their panel are enlarged and look soft, so use at least 1000 px on the long side for a single-image meme.

Frequently asked questions
Can I make an animated GIF meme here?
No. The Meme Creator exports a still PNG, and an animated GIF or WebP only contributes its first frame. To caption an animation, use Add Text to GIF. To build an animation from several pictures first, use GIF Maker.
How do I put a caption on two lines?
Each text field holds one line. Add a second field with +, give it the same Font Size, and drag its Y slider until it sits directly under the first line in the preview. New fields start centred at X 50, so the two lines stay aligned.
Why is my meme file so large?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression. That keeps captions crisp, but a photo-based meme at 1000 × 1000 px can easily exceed 1 MB. If an upload form rejects it, convert it to JPG with Convert Image; the meme is already in the file list there.
Are my pictures uploaded, and is photo data kept?
The meme is drawn in your browser, but every picture you add and the finished meme are uploaded to our server so they show up in the file list of all image tools. Nothing is sent to an AI service. The uploaded originals are stored unchanged until they expire, but the downloaded PNG is a fresh render, so camera details and GPS location from your photos are not copied into it.
Can I change the text after downloading?
Not in the file: the captions become part of the pixels. While the page stays open, you can keep editing and download again. A reload resets the text fields to the two MEME TEXT defaults, but your pictures stay in the thumbnail list until they expire.
