Convert HEIC to PDF

No image selectedHEIC pages

What happens to your HEIC photos in the PDF

Convert HEIC or HEIF photos from an iPhone into a PDF document. Arrange the photos, choose A4, Letter, Legal or a page fitted to the image, and adjust margins and orientation. Use Contain when every edge must remain visible, or Cover to fill the page. The result is a PDF for viewing or printing, rather than a folder of converted JPG photos.

Cost: Free to use. File size and usage limits apply.

How to turn HEIC photos into a PDF

  1. Add your photos

Click Upload or drop .heic and .heif files onto the preview. You can add several at once, up to 200 MB each. HEIC photos you uploaded in other tools are already listed under Files.

  2. Check which photos are included

The Choose images card shows your HEIC photos as thumbnails and the selected ones as a numbered list. Photos that are already in your file manager are selected automatically, so click a thumbnail to remove any you don't want. One PDF holds up to 12 photos.

  3. Put the pages in order

New uploads go to the top of the list. Use the arrow buttons (Move up, Move down) next to each entry; the top row becomes page 1.

  4. Choose the page layout

In the Output card, set Page size, Orientation, Fit, Margin and Background. The defaults give one centred photo per A4 page with a 36px white margin.

  5. Create and download

Click Create PDF, wait for the job to finish, then use Download. The PDF is also added to the shared file manager, so other PDF tools can open it without a new upload.

Page size, orientation, fit, margin and background

Every page is built at 150 pixels per inch. That one number decides how many pixels a standard page has and how large a margin in px is on paper.

Page size
A4 (default, 1241 × 1754 px), Letter (1275 × 1650 px) and Legal (1275 × 2100 px) give real paper sizes. The photo is scaled to fit that page. Auto makes each page exactly as large as its photo plus the margins and keeps every pixel, at the cost of very large pages and files.
Orientation
Auto (default) decides per photo: wide photos get a landscape page, tall and square photos a portrait page, so one PDF can mix both. portrait or landscape forces the same orientation on every page; with contain, a wide photo on a portrait page is shown smaller. Orientation has no effect when the page size is Auto.
Fit
contain (default) shows the whole photo, scaled up or down to the area inside the margins; leftover space shows the background colour. cover fills that area completely and trims the overflow equally from both sides. actual works like contain but never enlarges a photo, so small images keep their pixel size. When a photo already needs to be reduced to fit the available area, actual and contain give the same result.
Margin
0–160 px on all four sides, default 36 px. On A4, Letter and Legal, 150 px equals 1 inch (25.4 mm), so 36 px is about 6 mm and 160 px about 27 mm. With Auto page size the margin is added in the photo's own pixels and looks thin next to a 12-megapixel image. Use 0 px together with cover for edge-to-edge pages.
Background
Colour picker, default white (#FFFFFF). It fills the margins, the space around a photo with contain or actual, and any transparent areas. Keep white for anything you will print.

Example: one 12-megapixel iPhone photo on A4

Take a portrait photo of 3024 × 4032 px and the default settings. The A4 page is 1241 × 1754 px; after 36 px of margin on each side, the photo area is 1169 × 1682 px. With contain the photo is scaled to 1169 × 1559 px, and the remaining 123 px of height becomes white bands above and below it.

Switch to cover and the photo is scaled to about 1262 × 1682 px, then about 7% of its width is trimmed at the left and right edges. Letter is closer to the 3:4 shape of phone photos: contain leaves only narrow side bands there, and cover trims just 26 px of height.

150 pixels per inch is fine for reading on screen and for everyday document printing. As a rule of thumb, photo prints are usually made at around 300 pixels per inch, and you cannot zoom into full camera detail at 150. If detail matters more than paper size, choose Auto: the page becomes 3096 × 4104 px, and a printer scales it down when you choose fit-to-page in the print dialog.

Formats and limits

Input formats
HEIC (.heic) and HEIF (.heif). For JPG, PNG, WebP or a mix with HEIC, use Image to PDF.
Output format
One PDF with one page per photo, in list order. Pages are images, so there is no selectable text. If a HEIF file holds several images, only one of them becomes a page.
Maximum file size
200 MB per photo
Photos per PDF
1 to 12
Page resolution
150 pixels per inch
Processing
On our servers. FFmpeg decodes the HEIC image and ImageMagick builds the pages. A job can run for up to 15 minutes.
Photo metadata
EXIF data such as GPS location, camera model and capture time is not copied into the PDF.
Watermark
None
Storage
Uploads and results are deleted automatically after 48 hours for guests and after 30 days for free accounts. Paid plans can keep files longer.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the PDF so much larger than my HEIC photos?

The PDF contains new page images rather than the original HEIC compression. Those pages are saved without a new lossy encoding, and their size depends on the image content, number of photos and page dimensions. Auto keeps the photo's pixel dimensions and can produce a larger document than A4, Letter or Legal. Compare the actual result; there is no quality slider or fixed size per page.

Do my photos lose quality?

Pages are not saved with lossy compression, but on A4, Letter and Legal each photo is resampled to 150 pixels per inch, which turns a 12-megapixel photo into about 2 megapixels. Auto page size keeps the original pixel count.

Why are some pages landscape and others portrait?

Orientation is set to Auto, which matches each page to its photo. Choose portrait or landscape to give every page the same orientation. Photos shot the other way then appear smaller with contain, or heavily cropped with cover.

Can I combine HEIC photos with JPG or PNG files?

Not in this tool, which accepts HEIC and HEIF only. Image to PDF takes HEIC together with JPG, PNG, WebP and other formats and has the same page settings. For separate JPG files instead of a PDF, use Convert Image.

How do I make a PDF with more than 12 photos?

Create several PDFs of up to 12 photos each, then join them in order with Merge PDFs. Each finished PDF is already in the shared file manager, so you don't have to download and upload it again.
