Add an Image Overlay to a GIF
Place a logo or image over a GIF
Combine a base animation with a logo, sticker or second image. Set its position, size, rotation and opacity, then choose how its colors blend with the background. The first selected file is the base and the second is the overlay; the result stays available in the shared file manager.
Cost: Free to use. File size and usage limits apply.
How to overlay an image on a GIF
Choose the two files
Use Choose files to upload a base GIF and an overlay, or select them from Uploads. Choose the base first and the overlay second. JPEG, PNG and WebP images are also accepted; a transparent PNG is useful for a logo without a rectangular background.
Arrange the overlay
Use the Position grid or drag the overlay in the preview. Set X offset (px) and Y offset (px) for precise placement. Size changes its width relative to the base; Rotation turns it.
Check and export
Adjust Opacity and Blend mode, then click Apply overlay. Play or inspect the result and use Download to save it. Check moving frames as well as the first frame so the logo remains legible throughout the animation.
Overlay settings
- Position and offsets
- Nine anchors cover the corners, edges and center. Center is the default. Selecting an anchor resets both offsets to 0px. Offsets range from −9,999px to 9,999px; positive X moves right and positive Y moves down.
- Size
- 5–200%, default 45%. The percentage refers to the base image’s width, and the overlay keeps its aspect ratio. At 45% on a 600px-wide base, the overlay is 270px wide before rotation.
- Opacity
- 0–100%, default 90%. This multiplies the overlay’s existing transparency: a transparent area stays transparent. Use 100% for full opacity and lower values for a subtler watermark.
- Rotation
- Default 0°. The slider covers −180° to 180° and the numeric field accepts −360° to 360°. Positive values rotate clockwise.
- Blend mode
- Normal is the default. Multiply, Screen, Overlay, Darken and Lighten offer different color combinations with the base. Try them on both light and dark frames before exporting.
Formats, processing and storage
- Input
- A base file and one overlay, in GIF, JPEG, PNG or WebP format. Each upload can be up to 200 MB.
- Output
- The output format follows the base file. An animated GIF base keeps its frame count and timing, with the overlay applied to every frame.
- Processing
- Compositing runs on our server. No AI or external editing service is needed. Parts outside the base canvas are cropped in the result.
- Storage
- Guest uploads and results are retained for 48 hours; free accounts retain them for 30 days. Paid plans can provide longer storage.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a transparent logo?
Yes. Use an image with an alpha channel, such as a transparent PNG. Opacity adjusts its visible pixels while preserving transparent areas.
Why does 100% size look large?
Size is measured against the base width, not the overlay’s original width. At 100%, the overlay becomes as wide as the base before rotation.
Can I overlay an image on a still photo?
Yes. A JPEG or PNG base produces a still result in that base format. For animated GIF output, choose a GIF as the base.
Can I keep editing the result?
The result is added to the shared file manager. Select it in Resize GIF or Compress GIF to adjust the animation’s dimensions or file size.
