Collage Maker for Grids, Strips, and Layouts

No image selectedUpload and select at least two images to unlock collage settings

How do you make a photo collage online?

Upload at least two images, choose the photos you want to include and select a grid, row, column, mosaic or custom layout. Adjust the spacing, border, background and final aspect ratio while checking the live preview. The collage maker combines the selected photos into one downloadable image without requiring a separate desktop editor.

Cost: Free to use. File size and usage limits apply.

How to make a collage step by step

  1. Add at least two images

Click Upload images to create a collage or drop several files at once. Images from other image tools on this site appear under Files and in the Choose images card; click a thumbnail to add or remove it. Up to 12 images can be selected.

  2. Choose Grid or Freeform

The first switch sets the mode. Grid arranges the images for you and offers the layouts Grid, Horizontal (one row) and Vertical (one column). Freeform gives you a canvas where you place, resize, rotate and overlap each image by hand.

  3. Set the final size

Width px and Height px are the exact dimensions of the finished image, 1600 × 1200 px by default. In Freeform they are called Canvas width px and Canvas height px. Set them first.

  4. Adjust the look

In Grid mode, change Spacing, Padding, Border and Background while watching the preview. Images fill the cells left to right, top to bottom, in the order you selected them, with new uploads first. Click a thumbnail twice to move that image to the end.

  5. Pick a format, create, download

Choose a format under Output, click Create collage, then Download. The result is also saved in the shared file manager, so you can open it in Overlay Image to add a logo. Click Clear result to return to the layout preview and render again.

Grid, strip and output settings

In Grid mode all cells have the same size. Each image is scaled to fit inside its cell without cropping and is centered.

Columns and Rows
Grid layout only, 1 to 20 each, default 2 × 2. If there are more images than cells, rows are added automatically and the note below shows it, for example 2 → 3 Rows. Surplus rows stay: 4 images in 2 columns × 3 rows leave the bottom row empty.
Width px and Height px
Whole numbers from 100 to 7680 px wide and 100 to 4320 px high. When the cell shape differs from a photo's shape, empty space remains around it.
Spacing and Padding
Spacing is the gap between cells, 0 to 100 px, default 18 px. Padding is the margin around the whole collage, 0 to 200 px, default 32 px.
Border (slider and color)
0 to 50 px, default 0 px; color default near-black #111827. With a border, each image gets a frame of this width in the border color, and the image stays centered in its cell.
Background
Color of the canvas, gaps and empty cells, default off-white #f8fafc. The collage is always opaque: transparent areas of PNG or WebP sources take this color.
Output format
PNG is the default and lossless. JPG, WebP and AVIF use lossy compression and can make photo collages smaller; compare the actual file size and detail. Choose a format supported by the program or site where you need it. GIF is limited to 256 colors, so photos can show banding. BMP is uncompressed and can be very large; TIFF suits print and archiving.
Quality
JPG, WebP and AVIF only. 1 to 100%, default 90%. Lower values give smaller files with more visible artifacts.

Freeform canvas controls

Freeform accepts 2 to 100 placed images, including copies made with Duplicate. Spacing, Padding and Border are not used here.

Canvas preset
Square 1000 × 1000 px, Instagram Post 1080 × 1080 px, Instagram Story 1080 × 1920 px, Facebook Cover 1200 × 630 px, Twitter Header 1500 × 500 px or YouTube Thumbnail 1280 × 720 px. Changing the canvas size later does not move or scale images already placed.
Move and resize
Drag an image to move it; drag a corner handle to resize it with its proportions kept. Parts outside the canvas are cut off in the result.
X px, Y px, Width px, Height px
Exact position and size of the selected image. A width or height that changes its proportions crops the image from the center to fill the box, as the preview shows.
Rotation and flips
The Rotation slider turns the selected image from −180° to 180°; Rotate left and Rotate right turn it by 90°. Flip H and Flip V mirror it. Corners around a rotated image show the background color.
Duplicate, layers, Delete
Duplicate adds a copy 24 px down and to the right, on top. Send backward and Bring forward move the image one layer. Delete removes it from the canvas, not from your files.
Grid and Zoom
Guide lines and a 45 to 180% view scale for the preview only; neither changes the result.

Worked example: sizing a horizontal strip

Cell width = (Width px − 2 × Padding − (columns − 1) × Spacing) ÷ columns, and the height works the same way with rows. Each image is then scaled until it fits its cell completely.

Take three 6000 × 4000 px landscape photos in Horizontal layout with the defaults. Each cell is (1600 − 64 − 36) ÷ 3 = 500 px wide and 1200 − 64 = 1136 px tall. The photos come out at 500 × 333 px with about 400 px of background above and below each one. Set Height px to 400 and the cells become 500 × 336 px, so the same photos fill a 1600 × 400 px strip. The rule: Height px ≈ cell width × photo height ÷ photo width + 2 × Padding. For Vertical, swap width and height.

The default 2 × 2 grid has 759 × 559 px cells. A 4:3 landscape photo fits at 745 × 559 px; a 3:4 portrait photo only at 419 × 559 px, with wide side bars. If you mix orientations and want every tile filled, use Freeform.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a GIF collage?

You can use GIFs as inputs and GIF as the output format, but the collage is always a still image: animated GIF and WebP files contribute only their first frame. To turn several images into an animation, use GIF Maker.

How do I make a horizontal collage with photos side by side?

Select the photos, stay in Grid mode and click Horizontal. Then lower Height px until the photos fill their cells, as in the worked example. They appear left to right in the order you selected them.

Why is there empty space around some photos?

Grid mode never crops. When a photo's shape differs from its cell, the rest of the cell shows the background color. Adjust Width px, Height px, Columns or Rows, or use Freeform, where you size each image yourself.

Why did my collage fail to render?

In Grid mode the job fails when Padding, Spacing and Border leave no room for the images; each cell must be larger than twice the border width. This gets tight with many images in one strip or a thick border on a small canvas. Lower those values, use fewer images or enlarge the canvas.

Why is my collage file so large?

PNG, TIFF and BMP keep every pixel without lossy compression, and a 7680 × 4320 px canvas holds over 33 million pixels. Choose JPG or WebP, lower Quality or use a smaller canvas. You can also open the result in Resize Image or Compress Image straight from the file manager.
